Cost-effective cutter for low volume, exotic material machining

High-end cutters are expensive and if tool-management is not in place the tool cost per component can rise rapidly. WNT’s latest range of solid carbide endmills provides a cost-effective solution to low-volume cutting of exotic materials. The four-flute solid carbide 93034 cutters sit between the current standard four-flute cutters and WNT’s premium HPC range. The variable helix flute design of these cutters is tailored to the machining of materials such as stainless steels and delivers the same high performance of the HPC range but for shorter periods and at a considerable cost saving – making them ideal for low volume production. For a typical 20 mm diameter cutter the cost is 68 per cent that of the equivalent HPC. “This latest range of solid carbide cutters is only available in the UK and has been developed as a result of customer feedback. This identified a need for such a cutter among the predominantly sub-contractors that make up our customer base in the UK,” says Tony Pennington, WNT (UK) managing director.
