CoroThread gets size 16 insert

A size 16 insert has been introduced to Sandvik Coromant's CoroThread 266 threading tool.

It complements the existing size 22 and 27 inserts and benefits from the iLock interface. The triangular insert has a slot for each of its three indexable cutting edges. The slots connect into a convex guide rail on the interface of the shim in the toolholder to lock the insert in its correct position in the pocket. This has the effect of reducing cutting forces to improve both thread precision and tool life. With CoroThread 266, cutting loads on the insert are dispersed with no pressure points, ensuring that insert and holder maintain their design integrity. This leads to longer tool and holder life, and greater continuity of production. This high level of stability allows a wide range of thread forms to be completed in fewer passes, and with greater accuracy. Tool handling is also simplified considerably, with accurate insert mounting, which reduces the amount of time spent changing tools.
