Cognex OCRMax optical character recognition tool speeds up read rates

OCRMax, an optical character recognition and verification tool for Cognex vision systems and vision software, can handle character variations, text skew, proportional fonts and variable string lengths. It can speed up tasks such as checking that labels match products, verifying print legibility of codes and matching text to barcodes or 2D data Matrix codes.

Cognex OCRMax's segmenting capability takes each character line and splits it into individual regions each containing a single character. This means that it can handle distorted, touching and variably spaced characters. It can also accommodate uneven surfaces and lighting variations in the background. OCRMax allows users to control key parameters to further improve segmentation performance for even higher feedrates and fewer misreads. An intuitive user interface makes font training a simple process, says Cognex, leading to more consistent and repeatable reading in virtually any environment. OCRMax users can also export and import fonts from external storage, increasing the tool's flexibility. The same fonts can be shared across multiple Cognex systems.
