Axminster adds pillar drills to Engineer Series

Two newly developed pillar drills have joined the Axminster Engineer Series. Weighing in at 48 kg, the M-360 is a small cast iron pillar drill suited to low batch work. It uses the ER16 collet system, which in turn uses collets with a closure of 1 mm; for example, a 7 mm collet will close down to 6 mm. The drill shank capacity is 0.5-10 mm, while the column features a rack and pinion system to control headstock height.

At the other end of the spectrum, the SB-250 floor-standing pillar drill is a robust 25 mm (maximum capacity in steel) drill with a weight of 210 kg. The headstock has been machined to precisely match the quill housing, virtually eliminating any spindle run-out, even at full quill extension, says Axminster. In addition, a high torque 1,500 W motor drives the spindle via a six-speed belt drive.
