AP&T introduces modular energy efficient Multilayer Feeder Furnace

The Multilayer Feeder Furnace, developed and manufactured by AP&T, progressed from concept to commercial product during 2013.

Unlike the usual roller hearth furnace used for press hardening, with the Multilayer Feeder Furnace several furnace modules are stacked on top of one another. Modules are added and removed as required using SpeedFeeders, but remain completely motionless during heating. This makes the process less sensitive and makes it easier to ensure a consistently high level of quality and can reduce maintenance costs, argues AP&T. Since the Multilayer Feeder Furnace does not require a roller conveyor, it only needs a third of the floor space required by a conventional solution. Also, primarily thanks to the equipment's compact dimensions, that heat loss is significantly reduced. Furnace modules can be delivered with an airtight controlled atmosphere that allows several types of material and steel grades to be heated without the risk of scaling. The furnace is electric, simple to install and avoids the disadvantages associated with combustion.
