Alicona InfiniteFocus SL 3D provides precise non-contact 3D profile measurement

The InfiniteFocus SL optical system from Alicona can be used for accurate 3D measurement of cutting tools or components. The non-contact system avoids distortion of soft products, such as those made from rubber or silicone.

Using Alicona developed FocusVariation technology, the SL system scans vertically over a feature, edge or flute and captures a full 3D model of the part to be measured. High vertical resolution allows measurement of features from millimetres down to submicron level with an X-Y range of 50 by 50 mm. Form and finish measurements can be made on the 3D model for QA purposes. Data is stored in user-defined databases for record and comparison purposes. Typically, the system will be used to measure surface features such as small radii, complex forms and surface finish on small components. Traceable roughness measurement results can be made within 20 seconds without pre-treatment of the surface. An optional measurement module also allows the measurement of tool cutting edges regardless of type, size, material or surface finish. User-defined measuring procedures can be stored for rapid selection by the operator. It is also possible to make comparisons against a master or CAD model.
