The AJV 550 is the smallest of a four-unit series that also includes AJV 760, AJV 800 and AJV 1000 models (model number refers to X-axis travel). The largest machine also offers 500 mm Y-axis and Z-axis travel (plus the option of a fitted riser block to extend spindle nose-to-table dimension). Its table size is 1,200 by 500 mm, above which a 17 kW spindle power draws tools from a 24-space standard magazine. Users have the option of Fanuc, Heidenhain, Fagor or Siemens controls. Other options can include a fourth axis, through-spindle coolant, higher precision glass scales, Renishaw metrology, HSK 63 spindle upgrade and flat chip conveyor.

The entry-level 3-axis AJV 550 vertical machining centre offers travels of 550 by 400 by 500 mm (in X, Y and Z) above a 700 by 400 mm table, employing a 7.5 kW, 9,000 rpm BT40 spindle and 16-position tool magazine. The package also includes coolant system, spiral swarf conveyor, Heidenhain TNC 320 control and on-site installation incorporating Renishaw laser and ball-bar calibration. Rapid traverse rates are 36 m/min in each axis and positioning accuracy is +/- 0.010 mm with a repeatability of +/- 0.007 mm.
