Portable Alicona IF-Profiler measures roughness and form

The Alicona IF-Profiler, a portable system for measuring traceable surface roughness and form, consists of a 3D measurement sensor and robust framework. This construction combined with a small control server enables fast and easy change of measurement positions or measurement locations. A patent pending technology provides optimised illumination of surfaces for short exposure times

Combining the capabilities of a 3D surface roughness measurement device and a micro co-ordinate measurement machine, Alicona IF-Profiler users can measure roughness and form of both, flat and curved components. Both profile and areal-based measurements are performed, allowing a numerical verification of local roughness and surface state. Depending on the application, users can achieve results within three seconds. A working distance up to 34 mm, combined with a measurement field of up to 10 by 10 mm enables a wide range of components to be measured. Motorised polarisation enables the system to carry out high resolution measurement of highly polished components or components with various coatings. The Alicona IF-Profiler is suitable for a wide range of applications, but comes into its own where traceable measurements and high repeatability are of value such as quality assurance of car bodies, steel plates, print rolls, turbine or rotor blades, steel and body type surfaces. The system is based on Focus-Variation for area based 3D surface measurement, a technology with high measurement point density which enables form and roughness measurement of surfaces across large measurement areas and volumes. Every measurement value automatically includes information for estimating the measurement uncertainty. As an area based technology, Focus-Variation is already included to the most recent EN ISO 25178.
