Leading machine tool manufacturer Yamazaki Mazak is on the lookout for the next generation of budding engineers.
The company has begun its recruitment process for its 2014 apprentice intake, which comprises 18 places, at its European headquarters and manufacturing facility in Worcester. Apprenticeships are open to individuals aged between 16 and 22, who are looking for a rewarding career in engineering.
Potential applicants can download and complet the application form at the Mazak Europe website (www.mazak.eu/uk-education-and-jobs). Applications close on the 31 March.
Successful applicants will benefit from a combination of practical hands-on learning and college-based further education. The first year will comprise of practical off-the-job training with local training provider, Worcestershire Group Training Association (WGTA), to learn basic engineering skills, along with attendance at technical college on day-release, which contributes towards a BTEC National Diploma or City & Guilds 2850.
During the subsequent two or three years, apprentices will spend time in a variety of different departments at the company's Warndon site and will be gradually introduced to Mazak's product range to hone their machine tool skills. This time will also be supported with further time in college and completion of NVQ Level 3.

An apprenticeship is far more than just a job; it offers the opportunity to learn and develop skills that will stay with people throughout their careers."
Recently, two Mazak apprentices won awards at the WGTA Annual Awards ceremony, namely, Best Overall First Year Apprentice and the Engineering Personal Development Award. Mazak was awarded the title of Apprentice Employer of the Year.
Continues Mr Barnett: "To date Yamazaki Mazak has successfully trained over 150 apprentices, some of whom are now working in senior positions at the company. We are looking for people who are self-motivated and enthusiastic about a career in engineering. Interest for these positions will be high, I would urge all potential apprentices to get their applications in now."
