A massive intake of 39 machine orders in just four days worth over £1.4 million were taken by XYZ Machine Tools, following the exhibiting of machines at its headquarter Open House in Burlescombe, Devon and at Southern Manufacturing exhibition, during the second half of February.

"The level of activity and interest from customers at both two-day events in the south was continuous and almost unbelievable, plus we also still have our normal order intake from our UK sales operations for the month to consider," said managing director Nigel Atherton. The Open House on 20-21 February drew 44 companies to Burlescombe, resulting in orders for 34 machines worth over £1.2 million. The showroom opened at 9.00 in the morning of the first day and by 10.30, six machines had been ordered and finance arranged. By the end of the first day, orders worth over £470,000 were on the books. On the second day, the levels of interest were even greater, with one customer ordering four machines and two others placed orders for two machines each. Meanwhile, at the Southern Manufacturing exhibition staged the week before at Farnborough, five machines were sold directly off the XYZ stand, worth almost £200,000. A further 64 companies attending the show requested quotations and visits from the XYZ sales team. Added Mr Atherton: "The interest shown by visitors indicated very serious levels of business was on the cards and we are anticipating further significant orders will be taken over the next few weeks as a result of this show."
