XYZ machines on view at Subcon - including new auto tool change ProtoTRAK machine

1 min read

XYZ Machine Tools will have machines on its stand at Subcon (Stand B32, NEC, Birmingham, 8-10 June), including the novel LPM, the first ProtoTRAK-equipped machine tool to be fitted with an automated tool changer.

The company specialises in metalcutting machine tools for prototype and low volume applications, with the emphasis on performance, value for money, and unrivalled standards of customer service and support. Its machines feature the easy-to-use ProtoTRAK control, which requires no codes to be learnt because programming needs only a response to simple English language prompts, with the added reassurance that these machine tools can be operated at any time under manual control. On the stand will be the first ProtoTRAK-equipped machine tool to be fitted with an automated tool changer, the LPM. This new machine is a machining system that combines machining centre capability with extremely fast set-up, and it is capable of providing an instant productivity boost without the need to recruit additional staff. The two other ProtoTRAK-equipped CNC/manual machines on the XYZ stand will be a 10 hp 25-2,500 rpm XYZ ProTURN SLX 425 gap bed CNC/manual lathe (available with either 1,250 mm or 2,000 mm between centres) and a 5 hp variable speed (40-5,000 rpm head ProtoTRAK SMX 3500 CNC/manual bed mill. The fourth machine on the stand will be a 20 hp 5-8000 rpm XYZ 710 VMC, one of four models of vertical machining centre equipped as standard with the latest generation Siemens 828D ShopMill control. Also on show will be the XYZ Compact Turn 52, a 220 mm maximum turned diameter turning centre equipped with Siemens 828D ShopTurn CNC and available with or without live tooling. The Y axis of the LTY live tooling model can travel 35 mm above and below the workpiece centreline (70 mm total travel), making easy work of components that would normally require separate milling and turning set-ups. Programming of all Siemens controls fitted by XYZ can be accomplished without G coding knowledge, either at the machine or off-line using CADCAM or other applications software. Operator training is provided free-of-charge, with an extended warranty or collision damage insurance offered as an option.
