Ashby has extensive experience in metal cutting, having served his apprenticeship at Rolls Royce where he learnt the skill of looking at solid engineering reasons to do things.
Most recently, he has spent eight years working across the 3D printing sector with various companies.
He says: “3D printing, or additive manufacturing has been around for 1000s of years, from ancient civilisations making coil pots, to building a wall, it’s all additive manufacturing.
“However, we are now entering a period of what I see as quiet revolution, and with the new HP technology we can finally start to take 3D printing out of the prototype arena and into manufacturing as a genuine production tool, as it brings together the ‘perfect storm’ of cost-effective, fast computing power and, the ability to make real parts in commercially usable materials quickly and affordably.”
