The WorldSkills Competitions are held every other year and are open to competitors up to age 22. They are hosted by a different country every two years. It was held in London in 2011 at ExCeL.
The event in Leipzig is the 42nd such biennial event. Taking place over for days, it involves 46 skills, in which over 1,000 individuals are participating.
For engineering skills, the UK is represented in: Welding (Alastair Wilson); Mechanical Engineering Design – CAD (Andrew Craig); CNC Turning (Ben Anderson); CNC Milling (Ben Shaw); Mechatronics (James Overend and David Cargill); and Sheet Metal Technology (Matt Page).
