The Vollmer QXD200 features six simultaneously controlled CNC axes for the precision erosion and grinding of PCD tipped cutting tools up to 250 mm diameter and 200 mm long.
Visitors to Vollmer's stand (5080) at MACH 2010 will be able to witness the concept behind its design firsthand, with the QXD200 measuring, eroding, grinding and polishing, in just one clamping operation.
The QXD200 operates to a 5 micron tolerance over its 200 mm processing length with the tool in a suspended position, allowing it to be eroded, ground and polished, with the upmost precision. By suspending the tool vertically any deflection caused by the tools own weight becomes negated. At the same time the workpiece and wheel set are unaffected by debris and are subject to less wear and tear.
Managing director, Peter Allen, says the most exciting part of the QXD200 is the all new ExLevel software. "We developed this software to enable the machine to quickly produce finished drills from blanks for maximum efficiency. The ExLevel software also allows the customer to create a drill in a virtual environment on a PC, using a simulated 3D image of the machine processing the tool."
With prices starting at £300,000 the QXD200 is a significant investment, however as Mr Allen explains, "With increased erosion speeds, of 25 to 30 per cent, the time required for each job is dramatically reduced, so the QXD200 offers greater productivity."
Designed to fit within a very small footprint of 7.36m² (without a magazine) the QXD200 can be used in the smallest of workshop facilities.
