Vision Engineering helps turn ideas into commercial success

Vision Engineering says its recently set up manufacturing services division can provide the expertise to turn a good technical idea into a commercially successful product.

Employing 120 staff in two sites in Surrey, with international offices across North America, Europe and Asia, Vision Engineering's manufacturing services division provides the full spectrum of design and manufacturing services, plus half a century of experience in the design and manufacture of technical instrumentation. For example, the development of a prototype is just the beginning; patent and design protection is a vital, but costly, minefield, which requires experience to navigate. Products must also be designed and manufactured so that they can be competitively marketed and sold around the world and still make money for the owner of the idea or his/her original backers. Managing director Mark Curtis comments: "Vision Engineering has the experience, the design and manufacturing facilities and the commercial expertise to develop globally successful high technology instruments. It is entirely logical that we can offer all of these services to other companies so they may avoid the pitfalls in taking a new, highly innovative product to market. "We are not just talking about the process from initial concepts, through to prototypes and volume production. In the cold light of day, you must also research your markets well and assess at an early stage the overall commercial viability of a project. Even the best idea will fail if margins and distributions channels are not considered from day one." The results speak for themselves. Vision Engineering Manufacturing Services (VEMS) has designed, manufactured and helped launch equipment ranging from devices for diamond presentation in jewellery stores, to floor slip measuring instruments, force testers, automated assembly equipment and even model steam engines.
