Data shows 236,727 engines were manufactured in June compared to 242,011 in the same month last year. A total of 105,718 engines were manufactured for the home market (down -0.9%) and 131,009 engines were manufactured for the export market (down -3.2%).
However, year-to-date data shows 1,409,661 engines have been manufactured so far compared to 1,360,201 last year. The home market is up 2.7% and the export market up 4.4%.
Says SMMT chief Mike Hawes: “Overall, UK engine manufacturing continues to build on the success of last year, delivering on the investment it has received.
“Consistently, more than half of all engines produced in Britain are exported so manufacturers will watch closely as Britain seeks agreement on both the rules and the cost of doing business with partners in the EU and globally. We need urgent clarity on the terms of trade to ensure these factories maintain their international competitiveness in years to come.”

UK engine manufacturing fell -2.2% in June but year-to-date demand is up 3.6%, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
