Two Star lathes gone in 30 minutes

Within half an hour of Star GB's in-house exhibition opening in October, Scottish-based Swissmatic had placed an order for two SR-20RIII sliding-head bar autos bringing the company's total purchases of Star multi-axis CNC lathes in 2010 to seven.

During the three-day exhibition at Star's Melbourne technical centre in Derbyshire, another order for two machines was taken on the Thursday from Astec Precision increasing the subcontractors machining capacity to 12 Star sliding-head lathes at its Ulverston factory in Cumbria. Bob Hunt, managing director of Star GB, commented: "We were a little concerned at the outset that, so soon after MACH, the attendance level might be lower than usual, but we need not have worried. "The fact that we were showing for the first time two fixed-head lathes, having offered exclusively sliding-head lathes up till now, gave people extra incentive to come and see what was new. "By the end of the show we had met with over 120 visitors from 64 companies and now have a rejuvenated enquiry list that will undoubtedly secure a successful fourth quarter for us."
