Trumpf and Starmatik agree on strategic partnership for bending machine automation

Trumpf and Starmatik, the Italian specialist for robotic automation of sheet metal processing machines, have agreed to collaborate even more closely in the future after the two companies have recently announced that they have entered into an agreement to that effect.

Starmatik will be able to supply specific modular solutions for Trumpf's Smart Factory solutions that take into account the general trend toward automation. Customers benefit from the expertise of both companies, which generally means a significant process acceleration in production compared to standard solutions.

Trumpf focusses on partnerships and open standards when expanding its Smart Factory offerings. These include both the open interfaces of umati, the open location standards of omlox and the partnerships already concluded with storage and intralogistics specialists such as STOPA and Jungheinrich, machine software house Lantek and now with Starmatik

Starmatik was founded in 1996 in Spresiano in Italy and employs around 100 people. The company specialises in the field of process automation in sheet metal processing. The focus is on robotic automation of bending machines, but it can also be used for 2D laser and punching/combination machines.

Meanwhile, Trumpf has also further expanded its positioning technology business after increasing its stake in Dresden-based software company Zigpos GmbH from 25.1% to 50.1%

"After years of successful cooperation, both companies want to further expand the partnership. The goal is to jointly implement additional products based on the omlox open localization standard," said Eberhard Wahl, managing director of the recently founded subsidiary Trumpf Tracking Technologies GmbH.

Both Zigpos and Trumpf, along with many other companies, are committed to open localisation systems based on the omlox industry standard.

ZIGPOS already supplies software components for, among others, Trumpf's Track & Trace indoor localization system. The solution determines the position of sheet metal parts in real time and increases productivity and plannability in production through the resulting transparency. Thanks to ultra-wide-band (UWB) technology, the tracking system can be used safely in metallic manufacturing environments despite reflections.
