Sliding-head lathe manufacturer Star Micronics GB reports "several orders" from its October Open House event, held at its Derbyshire head office and technology centre.

On show at the three-day event were the new ST-20 triple-turret mill-turn and the SW-12RII, a twin-platen machine for sub-12 mm diameter components. Another highlight was the recent 12 mm machine, the SB-12R type E, which demonstrated its precision turning capabilities in conjunction with a Fanuc robot arm that automatically sorted and stored the produced parts to illustrate the automation achievable through effective use of Star's technology and that of their partners. Other machines shown included the SR-20RIV, SR-32J and the SW-20. The SB-20R Type G, which has recently received an upgrade to its platen with two high speed cross-working spindles, showcased its engraving capabilities by producing parts marked with intricate characters, including a unique sequential number on each part. The machine also has a guide bush option for improved material utilisation on short components. Partner companies at the event included Renishaw, CNC Data, Rainford Precision Machine Tools, Floyd UK, Emmaco and Weiland. Star GB managing director Steve Totty says: "This has been the most successful Open House we've held in recent years. The new machines, the SW-12RII and ST-20, have both been extremely well received and have already generated numerous enquiries." The company says it is already starting to plan next year's event.
