US metal additive manufacturing process developer Optomec has partnered with Tongtai Machine & Tool Company of Taiwan to integrate the Optomec LENS Print Engine and 3D metal printing capability into the Tongtai AMH-350 (Additive Manufacturing-Hybrid) vertical milling machine.

Tongtai will demonstrate this new, hybrid additive manufacturing machine at the TIMTOS show in Taiwan from 7-12 March.

The deal is Optomec’s second with a machine tool builder: at the Chicago, USA IMTS show in September 2016 it launched three models of LaserFab 3D Hybrid Machining Centres based on Fryer Machine Systems vertical machining centre.

Components of the LENS Print Engine include Optomec proprietary SteadyFlow powder feeders, LENS deposition head with SmartAM closed loop process control, fiber laser, and tool path generation software.

Tongtai, which is represented in the UK by Matchmaker CNC, and which recently acquired European machine brands Anger and PCI, will integrate the Optomec LENS Print Engine into its new AMH Hybrid product line.

“Partnering with one of Taiwan’s largest machine tool companies is a major milestone for Optomec in our efforts to expand the benefits of additive manufacturing,” said Dave Ramahi, president and CEO of Optomec.
