Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal publishes optimised performance milling cutters' brochure

1 min read

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal has brought together its extended range of optimised performance milling cutters comprising Wave Mill, 'Metal Slash' Mill, Dual and Face Mill line-ups into an easy-to-digest overview brochure.

The 18-page UK document features the Sumitomo cutter ranges broken down into a simple-to-appreciate format majoring on bullet points that depict the features, benefits and important characteristics of the cutters. As a result, users can quickly identify tooling to suit an application, choosing from the Sumi series of six latest cutter body types, inserts and Sumitomo's recently introduced high technology coatings. From the SEC Wave Mill Series, comprising WEX, WGX, and WRCX types, the WEX shoulder mill is illustrated with its nine variants, each featuring high shear, soft cutting actions and incorporating a totally new insert clamping arrangement. Recommended inserts for WEX include Sumitomo's latest high performance PVD coated Super ZX. The WGX cutter range provides a choice of four insert pitches and incorporates a new wiper/chip breaker style insert, while the anti-vibration WRCX Wave Radius Mill is available in 11 different variants to maximise performance on applications such as die, slant and helical milling. Ideal for high speed roughing, ramping, helical milling and even drilling from solid using the same MSX 'Metal Slash' Mill, this tool combines tool setting flexibility with lower tool stocks. The MSX is a multi-purpose tool in four end-mill and three shell-mill styles. Meanwhile, the Sumi Dual Mill delivers a higher productivity, cost-reducing advantage by accepting double-sided inserts with up to 16 corners. A further advantage of the Dual Mill is the ability to include two insert types in the same cutter body, which is also available in standard, fine or extra fine pitch. Available in general-purpose and fine pitch for cast iron and cast steels, the DNX SEC Face Mill provides new orders of high efficiency with cutting depths up to 8 mm. It also has the added economic advantage of accepting eight corner inserts. The Sumitomo range of inserts spans tungsten carbide, cermet, CBN and PCD, with grades and geometries for hard and soft materials where heavy roughing, medium cutting and the generation of mirror finishing is required.
