Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal will be releasing several ranges of newly developed coated and uncoated Cermet, polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) insert grades plus new ranges of milling cutters and anti-vibration endmills and a totally new programme of solid carbide drills at MACH 2012 (Birmingham NEC, 16-20 April)

Sumitomo's specialist cutting materials have been widely adopted as first choice by the automotive industry around the world, gaining a reputation amongst engineers for high performance, excellent wear resistance and toughness to ensure a consistent and most important, a predictable working life, claims the company. As a result, the tooling range has progressively been adopted within the demanding aerospace sector and, more widely, by general machinists, in order to meet increased demands of productivity, performance and production stability. Under Sumitomo's high hardness Sumiboron PCBN brand, which incorporates a special ceramic bonding agent, BN1000 is launched as a high wear resisting uncoated grade of insert for machining hardened steel, with BNC500 unveiled as a high speed, high precision coated grade for specifically machining ductile cast irons. Meanwhile, the Sumidia range of fine grain PCD sintered diamond tools is expanded with the launch of the DA1000 uncoated grade for high performance cutting of aluminium. A new uncoated toughened, high strength Cermet insert T1500A will also be shown for the first time in the UK, intended for high quality 'mirror' finish turning of steel, with the added bonus of high wear resistance giving extended in-cut life. High accuracy square shoulder milling through a new high precision cutter body designated SEC Wavemill WFX will be available at the show, giving a high shear action, but with the advantage of generating low cutting forces. The GSX anti-vibration solid endmill series will also be shown for the first time. Increasing Sumitomo's PVD coated range of solid carbide drills, the Princes Risborough-based UK subsidiary will be launching the latest SDP programme and extending its SMD and WDX range of drilling tools.
