Subcontractor KMF boosts business management with Epicor investment

KMF (Precision Sheet Metal) has completed the implementation of a new ERP (Enterprise, Resource, Planning) system, following an in-depth process of selection and justification.

KMF now has wide-ranging system functionality that is assisting the business in driving forward improvements in safety, quality, cost and delivery across all departments, in a co-ordinated fashion. The customer relationship management (CRM) module can provide a clear and live view of customer contacts, sales pipelines and quotation conversion. It has full control over 'customer order book management' and the full integrated (MRP) materials resource planning is providing an extremely powerful solution for the control of KMF's complex supply chains and inventory management. Other key features delivering immediate benefits are the modules for engineering change control, estimating, job routing generation, bill of material (BOM) and methods of operation (MOO) management. KMF is also benefitting from live job tracking and production reporting, which are of great value for a business with a diverse mix of customers, batch sizes and relatively short lead times. The Epicor system also assists with managing shipping and receiving from subcontractors, as well as financial tracking, control and variance and general business information reporting. The implementation was headed by Keith Nicholl, KMF's business Improvement Manager and Jeng Chyuan, KMF's IT technician. "The whole process was underpinned by working closely with handpicked representatives from each and every area of the business, and with the support of Epicor's consultants. In doing this, we were able to design, build, test, refine and improve the processes that allowed us to achieve the 'big bang' transition from our previously disjointed and discrete systems into a fully integrated ERP system," he says. "The work that KMF has undertaken to implement this system represents a major investment in hardware, software and training to future proof its ability to better serve its growing customer base, and ensure that their expectations are fully and seamlessly met."
