Switzerland-headquartered Starrag Group AG has announced a new partnership expected to give new impetus to blade machining, by combining highly productive machining centres with high-performance cutting tools.

The announcement was made during the recent Starrag 'Technology Days' event (19 to 20 March 2013), held in Rorschacherberg, Switzerland, where Starrag and Walter AG disclosed their agreement to collaborate on a joint development and manufacturing venture. For the first time with Walter, Starrag presented the latest cutting tool solutions, technologies and machining centres for innovative blade machining. Starrag's own dedicated blade machining CADCAM software - RCS - has been enhanced with the addition of an interface to the TDM software from TDM Systems (a 100% owned subsidiary of Walter AG, part of the Sandvik group of companies). TDM Systems develops data management software for cutting tools and production resources. The partners intend jointly to offer customers a comprehensive palette of services, ranging from project management and engineering, covering the supply and assembly of all system modules, through to application-specific CAM software and perfectly harmonised milling processes and tools. Said Dr Frank Brinken (pictured), CEO of Starrag AG, and Mirko Merlo, president of Walter AG, "We believe that our customers will benefit from our combined expertise and that we are thus able to make a small contribution to improving your competitiveness." [] Starrag Group products are marketed under the following strategic brands: Berthiez, Bumotec, Dörries, Droop+Rein, Heckert, Scharmann, SIP, Starrag, TTL, WMW. Headquartered in Rorschach/Switzerland, the Starrag Group operates manufacturing plants in Switzerland, Germany, France, the UK and India and has established a network of sales and services subsidiaries in numerous other countries.
