Seco Tools sets date for Inspiration through Innovation 2018

The annual ‘Inspiration through Innovation’ manufacturing best-practice event staged by Seco Tools UK will this year take place at the company’s technology centre in Alcester on 9-10 October.

Inspiration through Innovation will host 40 exhibitors, a full seminar programme, a series of best-practice tutorials and 18 machining demonstrations.

According to Mike Fleming, Seco Tools UK’s sales and marketing manager, the 2018 event will change its focus, with more emphasis being given to the range and type of machining demonstrations: “This year there will be more demonstrations, all of which are industry-specific and involve either actual customer components, or those based on actual customer components.”

Although the focus has changed, the emphasis is still very much on collaboration, best practice and sharing knowledge, with every demonstration being the result of a collective working partnership between Seco Tools and its technical partners. All technical partners, representing machine tool builders, and CADCAM, workholding, cutting fluid and metrology specialists, will be directly involved in at least one machining demonstration.

Making the demonstrations more relevant and partnership-led is not the only change, however, as Fleming explains: “In previous years, the machining demonstrations took place in the main exhibition area, surrounded by technical partner exhibition stands. This arrangement meant that visitors didn’t always have good access to the machining taking place. For the 2018 event, a large and specific demonstration zone has been created that is totally separate from the exhibition area.”

Nine seminars are planned over the two-day event, each one delivered by a recognised industry-expert and each focused on a relevant manufacturing and/or machining issue.

In addition to the seminars, a newly-devised series of tutorials is planned. These tutorials, more focused in scope and scale, tackle specific challenges that include the best practice machining of workpiece materials such as stainless steel and nickel-based alloys.

The event is free of charge, and doors open on both days at 09:00, closing at 19:30 on 9 October and 17:00 on 10 October. Those wishing to attend can register at www.secotools.com/ITI
