Sandvik Coromant has set up an online resource designed to encourage knowledge-sharing for composite component machining.

Hosted through www.compositemachining.org, the intention is to impart knowledge about working with composite materials. An online blog has been created to allow users to ask questions and get them answered by their peers and/or Sandvik Coromant's own team of experts. With its growing relevance to business activities, Sandvik Coromant has also been quick to make use of the latest social media outlets for smooth dialogue and easily accessed information about composites via Twitter and Facebook feeds. Composites uptake is growing rapidly, with sectors such as aerospace, motorsport, automotive, marine and wind energy adopting an ever greater ratio of composite parts in assemblies because of their combination of high strength and light weight. While carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is currently the dominant material group, metal matrix and ceramic matrix composites are also seeing wider use in engineering applications. Ultimately, the entire resource is designed to engage the composites community and encourage visitors to share knowledge and ask questions. Related video: Sandvik Coromant composite machining
