Liverpool Engineering firm Rewinds & J Windsor (RJW) has received approval from Lloyds for its spiral welding machine and procedures.
Added to the company's capability 3 years ago, the spiral welding machine is one of the largest and up to date in the UK, it is claimed.
Now with the recognition of Lloyds added to the approvals gained from Shell UK and Det Norske Veritas (DNV), RJW can offer its spiral welding facilities into a wider range of industries and applications.
Spiral welding is one of the best quality shaft reclamation techniques available, says RJW, and provides a long-term, cost-effective solution to shafts worn in the field.
RJW have over 20 years' experience in spiral welding techniques and recently invested over £100,000 in their new, state-of-the art spiral welding equipment.
The facility can accommodate shafts from 25 mm to 2 m in diameter and up to 6 m in length. As well as welding with carbon steels (EN 8, 24 etc), stainless steel and other more exotic materials, including Monels and Incalloys, can be applied.
The spiral welding facility is backed by a full machining capability, offering extensive milling, turning and boring facilities within the mechanical workshops. The facilities are also supported with MPI and ultrasonic inspection facilities, together with other NDT services, where required.
As well as shaft refurbishment, spiral welding can also be used as a cladding technique on faces and internal and external diameters of rollers and other rotating equipment.
