Renishaw probes win Queen's Award

Renishaw has scooped a Queen's Award for Enterprise 2007 in the Innovations category.

The Award is made to Renishaw plc for the development of a radio transmission spindle probe system, the RMP60 and RMI probe system used on CNC machine tools. The systems are able to measure work pieces, provide off-set fixtures, control in-cycle processes and final inspect work being machined automatically. The innovations include the incorporation of a specialised transmission control algorithm, the introduction of frequency hopping to reduce radio interference and the development of a technique for turning probes on and off using radio signals. The new system has improved the reliability, speed and safety of CNC machines.
