Global engineering and scientific technologies company Renishaw is contributing to a new medical centre in London, Canada.

The centre, Additive DEsign In Surgical Solutions (ADEISS), is the result of a partnership between Western University, the London Medical Network and Renishaw.

The centre will focus on the research, development and commercialisation of additively manufactured medical devices and surgical instruments. It also aims to aid in the development of additively manufactured medical technology.

Renishaw will take the lead on the additive manufacturing processes used in the production of the 3D printed medical devices and surgical tools.

The collaborative project draws on knowledge and expertise of several organisations, including: Renishaw, Western University, Western’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Robarts Research Institute, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London.

Says Renishaw Canada president Dafydd Williams: “Renishaw is very excited to be a fundamental part of the ADEISS programme.Following on from the great success of our Healthcare Centre of Excellence located in Miskin, South Wales, ADEISS will be crucial in Renishaw’s ability to impact the North American market.

“We anticipate this uniquely placed facility will yield many new innovations in both medical device design and the use of additive manufacturing technology, to push the boundaries of current thinking and design in this technically very demanding field.”
