REM Systems bought by Warwick Machine Tools; moves but retains name

Warwick Machine Tools has acquired REM Systems from its owner, John Ryland, with the business now operating from Honiley, Warks, Machinery learned at Birmingham’s MACH 2016 exhibition this week.

There has been no change of name for the purchased company, which has been the UK agent for Swiss workholding and automation expert Erowa since 1988 but, following the October last year sale and purchase, the operation has moved from Churcham, Gloucestershire, to Honiley, Warks, where Warwick Machine Tools is headquartered.

Headed up by Ian Holbeche, Warwick Machine Tools is the UK agent for die-sink EDM technology from Spain’s ONA and wire-cut EDM from Taiwan’s Excetek.

When first established, REM Systems’ sales were strongly linked with EDM technology, reports Ryland, who remains as consultant with the business and was in attendance at MACH 2016, but adds that this is no longer the case. Machining centre fixturing and automation equipment are now the main focus; areas that will continue to be pursued now by REM Systems' new owner.

New Erowa products launched this week at MACH 2016 underline this message, with the highlights on the stand in hall 5 of the NEC being a range of mineral cast tombstone cubes that can feature the Erowa MTS zero-point location system, along with the CleverClamp vice that is specially tailored for producing parts in one-offs and small batches.

In addition, Erowa automation was represented at MACH 2016 on the stands of both Hurco Europe and YMT Technologies, for example.
