EdgeCAM developer, Pathtrace plc, has been acquired by Ashford, Kent-headquartered, AIM-listed Planit Holdings plc.

Planit has previously acquired CAM software companies Licom, Coventry (AlphaCAM software) and sheet metal CAM software specialist Radan, Bath. In addition, it also acquired Jobshop production control software firm HRS, Leicester. Planit offers design and manufacturing software to the engineering, stone, cabinet making and woodworking industries. It also specialises in retail design solutions for the home improvement industry and business management software. The company is a £28 million-plus turnover concern, according to 2005 accounts, and claims 50,000 customers worldwide, including the latest acquisition. “This is a further reinforcement of our commitment to this market sector,” said Planit’s chief operating officer, Bryan Pryce. “Pathtrace’s principal product line, EdgeCAM, is a well respected and highly capable off-line programming system, which complements our existing strengths in the engineering sector. But just as importantly, with offices in the UK, US, China and Japan and a global distribution network, Pathtrace provides important additional routes to market for all our group’s CAM products. In addition, Pathtrace is Autodesk’s global preferred CAM partner and is a certified SolidWorks CAM partner.”
