Gerry Cook has taken on the newly created role of internal sales manager at cutting tool maker SGS Carbide Tool, with the aim of further improving the company's response to customer demands.

The new position, considered pivotal, will form a crucial link between the company's experienced technical sales engineers and its production facilities. Mr Cook brings a wealth of customer communication and problem-solving skills across all levels to the Berkshire-based cutting tool company. Prior to joining SGS, he held senior training, applications and sales management positions with CADCAM specialist Delcam, involved in product development. Both companies have worked together on collaborative projects over the years, so Mr Cook has first-hand experience of SGS. His engineering experience also includes a number of years working for the Ministry of Defence, having completed a formal mechanical craft apprenticeship at AWE Aldermaston. "SGS Carbide Tool has an enviable reputation in the UK, and is seen as an important cutting tool solution provider for many of the leading aerospace primes and tiered suppliers," comments Mr Cook. "I aim to build on this reputation and plan to take the company to the next level, both in terms of market awareness in existing and additional sectors, as well as the support provided to customers." Managing Director Alan Pearce adds: "There has been a steady upturn in UK manufacturing, which we've been able to capitalise on with a number of exciting new products launched at the recent EMO exhibition. To support the continued growth, we created this pivotal position. Now, Gerry has his finger on the pulse of all the activities within the company and will smooth the flow between the customer and our shopfloor – effectively reducing the time to market." Concludes Mr Cook: "The complete range of standard and tailor-engineered solid carbide cutting tool solutions is available from SGS and customers can bring their machining problems to us. We provide the production engineering knowledge for the job off-site and provide them with a full package of results, which can include video footage of the machining sequence,"
