Pferd has extended its German logistics centre to underpin faster delivery services in Europe and worldwide.
The company's product range takes in some 7,000 products for surface finishing, grinding and cutting.
The extended building stands 18 m high and covers an area of 10,500 sq m, and it incorporates the most advanced technology of its kind developed in the world today. The multi-million euro investment has been a year in construction.
Originally commissioned in 1991, the facility was first extended in 1996 and again in 2004 to provide 3,400 storage positions. Storage position capacity has now been more than doubled to 7,700 positions, with an additional 2,300 in reserve, making an available capacity of 10,000 for further long-term development.
Presently, about 900 orders are processed and shipped every day from Marienheide to destinations all around the world.
The logistics centre supplies all end-user customers direct in England, France, Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg, The Netherlands and Sweden, within a maximum of 72 hours, but an Express option (next day delivery), ensures that all normal orders are despatched the same day if received by 1 pm.
Worldwide, the system supplies 17 Pferd wholly-owned subsidiaries, plus stock-holding and manufacturing companies, and end users around the world.
