The Aircraft Carrier Alliance has awarded a further four contracts worth almost £33.2 million on the programme to build the largest warships to ever enter service in the UK and the future flagships for the Royal Navy.

The four contracts have been awarded to suppliers from right across the UK: - A £15 million contract for the installation of cables and containment on the modules being constructed at Govan prior to final integration at Rosyth has been awarded to Balfour Beatty Engineering Services. - A contract worth over £44,000 has been awarded to Glasgow based company Edmundson Electrical for component parts called glands, which are used to pack and make airtight the cables that run throughout the ships. - Jetway Associates of Wiltshire has been awarded a contract for £137,000 for the supply of hose baskets, which form part of the fire fighting equipment on the ships. - The contract for the storage facility has been awarded to Wincanton and is worth £18 million. This brings the total to around £1.2 billion of £1.5 billion worth of subcontracts awarded on the programme, which is supporting thousands of jobs across almost every region of the UK. The Aircraft Carrier Alliance is a single integrated team formed from Babcock, BAE Systems, Thales UK and the MOD (which acts as both partner and client). It is responsible for delivering the Queen Elizabeth Class ships to time and cost. The QE Class Aircraft Carriers will have a full displacement of 65,000 tonnes, 280 m long by 70 m wide, 56 m from keel to masthead able to carry some 40 aircraft with the first ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth due to enter service in 2016.
