Online calculator underscores Sandvik Capto benefits

1 min read

Sandvik Coromant has introduced an online calculator that allows machine shops to determine how much additional profit can be made by using the Coromant Capto toolholder system in preference to conventional shank tools.

The calculator, which can be found at www.quickchange-calculator.com, not only determines the financial benefit but also tells users how many hours of production time will be saved and the estimated period before payback is achieved. It also offers a graphical representation of how Coromant Capto compares to shank tools for the particular data set. Entering the information required by the calculator takes no more than a few minutes. In the step-by-step ‘Easy Mode’, users are asked to provide average/typical data for the following: number of annual working days; shifts per day; batches per shift; toolchanges per shift; cutting edge changes per shift; hourly machine cost; length of time taken to change a toolholder; time taken to change or index an insert; time taken for measuring cuts; number of tool blocks/holders needed; and cost per tool block/holder. Anticipated results are then calculated and displayed instantly. The calculator, which is believed to be the first of its kind freely available on the internet, also features an ‘Expert Mode’ for more experienced users. The information required is exactly the same as Easy Mode but all of the data is input to a single screen. Repeat users can expect to quickly progress from Easy Mode to Expert Mode.
