North West Aerospace Alliance Shared Services initiative kicks off savings for members

The North West Aerospace Alliance has signed up the first two companies to its Shared Services initiative.

Funded by the North West Development Association and the European Regional Development Fund to the tune of £1.3 million, the initiative sees the pooling of purchasing to obtain better terms on everything from tangible items such as utilities, stationery and transport, to strategic services such as quality and environmental expertise.
The first pooled service to be targeted is logistics, with Merc Enginering of Barrowford and ELE Advanced Technologies of Colne being the first to sign up to the NWAA's Transport Service, which exploits links with logistics giant TNT. This is expected to reduce the costs, initially, for parcels and pallet movements.
Merc Engineering's commercial director, John Holye says the company has already been offered "very significant savings", with the company also seeking to take advantage of next element of the initiative.
This second element of the Shared Services programme will be launched in September and will see an emphasis on driving down consumable costs for such things as workshop supplies and safety clothing.
