Following a partnership agreement with Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology, EuroPac will be offering a powerful computer tomography service based on the Carl Zeiss Metrotom (see linked story).
The system adopts technology similar to the X-ray machines used in medicine. X-rays penetrate an object and display it on a suitable detector. The details of the object appear as a 2D image in varying intensity depending on the geometry and absorption properties involved.
The desired 3D image is created by rotating the object 360 degrees along its axis on a rotary table and then converting the gathered data to a 3D volume model that shows internal as well as external details.
Carl Zeis has, in fact, offered computer tomographic measurements and workpiece inspection for three years. The extensive experience gained has been integrated into the new Metrotom computer tomograph.
EuroPac says its system can be used for a multitude of applications including, assembly checks, damage analysis, material inspections, and porosity and defect analysis.
