Guhring Ltd has appointed Chris Weston as its new managing director with effect from 1 July 2018. The appointment will see the replacement of Mike Dinsdale, the outgoing managing director, who is set to retire at the end of 2018 after 40 years’ service.

Weston will call upon his 19 years of Guhring employment to further develop and grow the company. Since joining Guhring, he has been involved in all aspects of the business, including sales, project engineering, production management and, more recently, as general manager.

In 2017, Guhring Ltd moved to a newly built manufacturing facility in Birmingham, and Weston and his team were instrumental in the construction and delivery of the 55,000 ft2 facility. Since the plant opened, staff numbers have increased by 15% to 87 people, and UK cutting tool production and sales have both increased significantly, says the company.

Commenting on his appointment and the future growth of Guhring, Weston says: “I am delighted to accept this position at such a pivotal time for the company. We have a new factory that sets the foundations in place for future growth, and this is certainly an exciting period for Guhring, its staff and, of course, the customer base. We now have the latest in-house manufacturing capability to design, develop, manufacture and service precision HSS, carbide and PCD/CBN cutting tools. In addition to our manufacturing capabilities and service, we offer over £3.5m of tooling from stock.

“As we look to the future, the diversity of product choice from Guhring and the availability of bespoke solutions has prompted us to open an internal training academy,” he continues. “Working in close partnership with the Engineering Technology Group [ETG], we have installed machine tools to provide a training, trials and demonstration suite. Finally, I would like to thank Mike for his lifelong commitment to Guhring and steering the company to its current position.”
