New grinding wheels from Tyrolit

The innovations include StarTec PG-1, a range of grinding tools for high speed, external, cylindrical, longitudinal grinding. "This product is designed for the rough grinding of tungsten carbide," says managing director John Wills. "It's a grinding and finishing wheel which can increase feed rates by 25% and reduce wheel wear by 10%. It has a really new combination of diamond grain quality and a really strong metallic bond which means it is an incredibly efficient wheel that also gives a really nice surface finish." Also new is StarTec XP-P, a series of cup grinding wheels for universal applications for tool manufacturing. "The new cup wheels have really advanced specifications designed for manufacturing cutting tools made from hard metals," explains Mr Wills. "The idea is that these wheels need far less dressing and will last far longer than equivalent wheels. They have also been designed to reduce grinding forces by a huge amount so they are far less likely to break and allow you to increase feed rates significantly." Elsewhere on the Tyrolit stand will be the new StarTec MT-1 grinding wheels for the production of high precision micro-tools. The range includes grinding tools and specially designed dressing wheels. "This is another addition to the StarTec range with really high diamond quality and an innovative bonding design," says Mr Wills. "The idea is that this ensures low grinding forces and a particularly high cutting capacity when grinding. The finish these wheels give is really outstanding." Another introduction at MACH will be the SoloTec range of grinding tools for the peripheral grinding of indexable carbide and cement. "These tools are available for use on all common grinding machines," Mr Wills says. "They have a newly developed bonding system to give more strength. We've also used a new diamond grain to achieve higher levels of stock removal." The final new product at MACH is Mira Ultra, a line of ceramic bonded grinding wheels for continuous gear grinding. "The latest version of Mira Ultra has seen us remove sintered corundum from the specification," says Mr Wills. "This guarantees the best cost effectiveness in terms of longer dressing intervals, reduced wheel changes and increased removal rates combined with low initial costs. We've also changed the structure to allow safer operation on modern, high speed machines. The specially developed, ultra-porous Mira bonding system also guarantees maximum protection against overheating." Along with these new products, Tyrolit will be exhibiting some of its innovations designed for the aerospace, automotive and bearing industries.
