Naked vertical machining centre on display at MACH 2010

1 min read

Visitors to stand 5460, at MACH 2010, will see the XYZ 1020 VMC "naked", with all sheet metal removed and this machining centre fitted with a 5th axis direct drive, demonstrating the programmed movements required to machine a complex 5-axis component.

With its solid Meehanite ribbed casting and induction-hardened, extra-wide box slideways contributing to rigidity and vibration absorption, this 20 hp, 8,000 rpm vertical machining centre is designed for serious metal removal. The machine centre is 2,650 mm (W) by 2,105 mm (D) by 3,020 mm (H), with travels of 1,020 mm in the X-axis, 540 mm in the Y-axis and 580 mm in the Z-axis. Rapid feeds of up to 20 m/min are available on all axes. The Siemens 828D ShopMill conversational CNC is fitted as standard, however the machine being demonstrated at MACH 2010 is equipped with the Siemens 840D SL CNC. The 840D SL CNC has the capability to integrate a full fifth axis in the form of an optional trunion or tilt/rotary fixture located on the 800 kg, maximum load capacity, 1,120 mm x 500 mm T-slot table.
