James Wharton MP will speak about the government’s post-Brexit plan and other issues at the Manufacturing & Engineering North East exhibition and conference on 6-7 July at the Metro Arena in Newcastle.

The secretary of state for the Northern Powerhouse will look to outline the government’s long-term economic plan as it seeks to re-balance growth across the regions and nations of the UK, and build a Northern Powerhouse, during his talk from 14.15 to 15.00 on 7 July.

Wharton, MP for Stockton South (Teeside) since 2010, says he aims to implement a plan that could add up to £40 billion to the economy by the end of the next decade, investing in science and technology, transport, digital and innovation, culture and tourism across the region, alongside devolving power to give the North a powerful new voice.

He will also be taking questions on what the future holds for manufacturing in the North East after the UK voted to the leave the EU in the June referendum.

In addition to the Northern Powerhouse minister, the conference at Manufacturing & Engineering North East will provide case studies by industry leading speakers including Hitachi Rail, Nissan, Ford Aerospace and AMRC TC.
