FARO, provider of portable measurement and imaging solutions, has unveiled what it claims is the most accurate laser tracker available, based on the most common measurement types.

Called ION, it is said to be the most advanced FARO Laser Tracker ever introduced. The unit also features an increased measurement range, is lighter in weight and, says FARO, contains the fastest, most sophisticated distance measuring system available: Agile Absolute Distance Meter (AADM). Boasting this advanced technology, the ION has improved volumetric accuracy – by 27 %, compared to the previous model, offering 0.049 mm at 10 m. "At FARO, our goal is to continuously provide advanced solutions that empower our customers," stated Jay Freeland, FARO chief executive officer. FARO has also launched a new version of its 3D measurement Software, CAM2 Q, incorporating the TechSoft 3D CAD translator and Parasolid CAD Engine. The new measurement product developments were unveiled to more than 50 visitors at an event held at Williams F1's Conference Centre in Wantage recently. In addition to learning about FARO's latest technology advances, they also heard Chris Aylett, CEO of MIA (Motorsport Industry Association), deliver a keynote speech on quality control in motorsports. The UK's MIA is the world's leading trade association for the motorsport, performance engineering, services and tuning sectors Participants at the FARO event additionally were able to experience the real F1 feeling – from behind the wheel of Williams' F1 simulator (pictured).
