Mori Seiki has opened an office on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham, next to the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), to support it in the Strategic Affordable Manufacturing in the UK with Leading Environmental Technology (SAMULET) project.

SAMULET is a Rolls-Royce-led collaborative programme to accelerate the development of manufacturing and product technologies. Its focus is on productivity and environmental improvements, including efficient advanced manufacturing processes and ensuring that the UK aero-engine industry remains competitive in the face of 2020 emission targets. The programme is be closely linked with the AMRC and is receiving support of £28.5 million from the TSB, as well as £11.5 million from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Mori Seiki has installed a NMV8000 5-axis vertical machining centre with an 800 mm pallet, and by the end of the year will be adding a NT6600 multi tasking machine which has a 6.6 m capacity turning length and is capable of utilising boring bars up to 1.25 m long. Both machines have grinding capability. For vertical turning of parts up to 1.6 m diameter, Mori Seiki will also be delivering a NVL vertical lathe. As well as supporting the AMRC, Mori Seiki will make the new facility available to local companies to help them improve productivity and in turn generate further employment for the local community.
