Mollart secures £400,000 machine orders from China and Eastern Europe

The combination of Mollart Engineering's deep hole drilling expertise with, tooling partner, Botek's application knowledge, has secured the Chessington machine tool builder a first time order for drilling fuel rails, for a new automotive fuel injection plant, in China.

This initial contract, won against intense competition from other European deep hole drilling companies, all keen to gain a foothold in this new European venture for the Chinese market, not only confirms the Mollart reputation in this highly specialised technical application but opens the door for multiple machine installations over the next few years, as the plant expands its production capability. "This is an important order to secure and follows closely from our winning a three machine contract in Eastern Europe, during the first quarter of 2010, for producing similar components. In total the four machines are valued at over £400,000," said managing director, Guy Mollart. At the Chinese plant, the Mollart twin-spindle gundrill will produce a range of holes between 9 mm and 12 mm diameter, by up to 750 mm deep in the high grade forged steel component. It was the ability of the Mollart application to be changed over within 10 minutes that proved to be an important factor in meeting the purchasing engineer's requirements, with a growing number of variants being needed to be scheduled through the manually loaded machine. In addition, the simplicity of Mollart's fixturing set up, that uses a pair of vees and tailstock and enables the two components to be easily loaded to the drilling axis before being rigidly clamped against the chip box of the machine, will ensure high levels of machine utilisation and productivity.
