Miyano sales agent for the North of England and Scotland, Bewley & Co Ltd of Warrington, reports high sales levels in the region.
“Our customers are now finding that global competition makes it necessary for them to produce larger, more complex parts from tougher and more exotic materials," says Peter Bewley, managing director of the firm, appointed to represent Miyano in 2006. "Customers are now producing components too large or too complex to be produced on traditional 'Swiss Type' automatic lathes.”
Miyano CNC turning centres boast capacities up to 64 mm diameter. As soon as Bewley became the new agent for Macro CNC, it sold a Miyano BNJ-42SY 7-axis fixed-head turning centre with 42 mm diameter capacity to BTMA member Swissmatic, Wishaw, Scotland (pictured).
Confirming the industry trends highlighted by Mr Bewley, Swissmatic managing director Jim Corbally added: “The rotating guide bush in sliding-head machines has difficulty supporting bar above 20 mm diameter at high spindle speeds. This is no problem with the Miyano fixed-head machine. From feasibility studies, the Miyano BNJ-42SY is estimated to give us productivity improvements of up to 25 per cent. However, these are conservative estimates and I believe the Miyano will deliver improvements of anything up to 35-40 per cent.”
Another customer is Auto Screw Products, also a BTMA member. It similarly has diversified to deliver parts outside the 32 mm diameter scope of its sliding-head machines. Auto Screw is a BNJ-42SY turning centre customer. There are many more, reports Mr Bewley.
