Mazak eyes another expansion at Worcester

Having completed its latest round of expansion at its Worcester manufacturing plant, Yamazaki Mazak Corporation is embarking on a review of the next phase of development at its European headquarters and manufacturing facility.

The Worcester manufacturing facility has already exceeded the ‘planned’ manufacturing capacity for the site. October alone witnessed the production and despatch of 166 machine tools. “When we completed, the most recent expansion of manufacturing at Worcester supported a planned capacity of 150 machines per month,” explained Richard Austin, Yamazaki Mazak’s general manager-direct production. “We have been able to meet the increased demand because of an increase in orders for our Nexus two-axis lathes. These require less time to manufacture and this has the effect of increasing capacity. We have also installed additional production systems to further streamline the manufacturing process.” Mazak fully expects this level of business to continue, especially given the interest in existing machines and, specifically, the inquiries at EMO and the recent EMO Encore Open House at Worcester, with some of these new models being manufactured at Worcester. “As a result, we are already discussing the next phase of expansion for the manufacturing capacity here at Worcester,” Mr Austin said. “These are exciting times for Mazak, Worcester and UK manufacturing, as our ongoing success is extended to our supplier base here in the UK.”
