Taking place on September 25, 2025, this year's National Manufacturing Day (NMD) provides the opportunity for manufacturers to open their doors and give visitors a unique behind-the-scenes look at the innovative and varied jobs on offer in the industry.
With an array of manufacturing sectors due to take part - from aerospace and automotive, to pharmaceuticals and renewables - visitors will get the chance to take part in hands-on workshops and speak to current employees about the career progression and opportunities available.
Make UK said that last year, over 250 businesses opened their doors on National Manufacturing Day to take part in a variety of activities, including building their own aeroplane, designing circuit boards from scratch, 3D printing, virtual welding and even how lifeboats start production as simple composites.
Students, parents and other visitors will also have the opportunity to talk to current apprentices about their paid training, as well as delving into the roles of marketing, planning and research which drive the innovations of tomorrow.
How can I take part in NMD 2025?
Manufacturers who are interested in signing up for National Manufacturing Day 2025 can do so here, with businesses that were involved in 2024 simply needing to update their pledges to be included again. Even if you’re planning to take part for the first time, Make UK said it only needs your business name and a contact email so it can get in touch.
By signing up now, businesses will be added to Make UK's interactive map, meaning that you’ll be visible to those looking to come along to an open day.
“National Manufacturing Day is growing every year and is where the diverse sector I am privileged to represent comes together to celebrate the innovations British companies make every day and showcase the careers on offer to people of all ages across the whole of the country," commented Stephen Phipson, CEO of Make UK.
“Our companies are at the forefront of technology development and global renewable design, and we hope this fourth National Manufacturing Day will encourage people who have never thought of manufacturing as their future to come along to see what it is really like first hand. This is a highly paid sector which offers something for everyone. I started my career as an apprentice engineer, and it is a decision I have not regretted for a single day.”
The organisation stressed that National Manufacturing Day isn’t just for inspiring career-minded school, college and university students, it’s also a chance for staff to show off their own hard work and achievements, with many companies inviting employees’ friends and family to see their place of work. While those looking for a career change are also encouraged to join in – there are plenty of retraining opportunities available for everyone in the manufacturing sector.
