John Wright has been appointed managing director of LMT UK, with a brief to restructure the tooling business.

His focus is to initially provide a stronger technical support to maximise the productivity gains for customers using the 40,000 products and specialist solution tooling developments from the six international brands within the LMT Group. The six major tooling brands of Belin, Bilz, Boehlerit, Fette, Kieninger and Onsrud within the Group provide specific tooling solutions across various production segments, such as 5-axis machining incorporating mould and die, prismatic components, threading, crankshaft milling, gear cutting, composites, woodworking and plastics, and the steel industry. Mr Wright (44) brings a wealth of customer communication and problem-solving skills across all levels from the shopfloor to the boardroom to the Meriden, Coventry-based tooling operation. Prior to joining LMT UK, he held positions as key account and customer solutions programme manager in support of the aerospace, automotive and general engineering sectors that spanned 14 years of service for a leading international tooling company. Following an apprenticeship with Rover Group and building his experience in a contract toolroom, he rose to become senior applications engineer working on pan-European projects in cell and system engineering for a leading German machine tool builder. Mr Wright has already appointed three additional experienced technical/application engineers to strengthen the sales team. These engineers are currently taking part in an initial eight-week technical product and process development course around LMT's various operations. This will enable them to be able to cross-represent all products in association with the in-depth technical support for each application segment which includes when needed, the development teams of each principal LMT company.
