Kasto Maschinenbau, Achern-Gamshurst, Germany has installed its largest ever block and plate bandsaw.
The installation has been made at Industeel Arcelor, Le Creusot, Burgundy, France, with the KASTObbs machine able to tackle material from 4 to 14 m in length, width 0.8 to 3 m, and in thicknesses ranging from 10 to 150 mm. The total weight admissible on the table is 15 tonnes.
Materials cut include steels with tensile strength of from 700 to 1,700 N/sq mm and take in difficult-to-cut materials such as titanium, Hastelloy and Inconel. The machine will operate automatically for lengths up to 13.5 m, including automatic plate handling, and manually for the longest workpieces. It is run on a 3-shift system.
The machine is a modified KASTObbs machine (KASTObbs A pictured) whose standard cutting length range is 3,100 to 6,100 mm.
