Newcastle-based sheet metal fabrication and precision CNC machining firm, KMF has recently promoted two of its ambitious apprentices to planning/sales engineers.

Ewan Spooner and Scott Mowat began their KMF careers as sheet metalwork apprentices, before quickly climbing the ranks and earning their promotions. Both young men have showed ever-growing enthusiasm and drive to develop their engineering skills while demonstrating budding business potential.

Since joining the company, Ewan has gained a vast range of knowledge and has been presented with many opportunities and awarded professional recognition. He commented: “I recently took part in the final of World Skills in Sheet Metal Technology where my skills and finesse were tested against the role of an accomplished sheet metalworker.”

“I’m also extremely proud that I received a KMF Team Leader Choice Award in 2021, voted for by the KMF production team.”

Ewan has worked in a range of departments at KMF which has allowed him to develop proficiency in every manufacturing process. Ewan’s passion for engineering, coupled with his drive for business has meant that he is very well suited to his new role.

He said: “This is the perfect job for me and I’m hoping this new challenge will lead me onto further progression over the next few years.”

Scott planned to enrol onto an apprenticeship from a young age, with ambition to pursue a business-based role after establishing himself within the engineering industry. He spent his trainee years at the firm working towards both his level 2 and level 3 qualifications, gaining valuable insight that would help him in his new role.

Alongside his career, Scott devotes time to various charity projects and work with the local community and has proven to be a valued asset to the firm.

Commenting on his new role, Scott said: “KMF has given me the underpinning knowledge to be able to apply for the Planning/Sales Engineer position, and I’m very pleased to have been accepted. The role will allow me to further pursue my career aspirations within a business environment.”

Keith Nicholl, commercial director at KMF said: “We recognised Scott and Ewan’s potential, right from the beginning. Their outstanding contribution to KMF so far is testament to the professional attitude and excellent work ethic they both exhibit every day.

“I am confident that given the right development and support both of our new team members will go on to have exciting careers within the engineering and sales functions and wish them all  the best.”
